Hardwood Choices for Euless Slab Homes
By census estimates, half of the housing in Euless was built before 1986 and half since, and roughly three in four occupied houses and townhomes went up before 2000 (American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024). They were built on concrete slabs poured over North Texas clay, a soil that expands after heavy rain and contracts in dry spells. Foundation repair is common in houses of that age across DFW, so the first questions at an estimate are about the slab: has it been leveled or piered, and does it still move? A flat, dry slab with no recent movement can take engineered hardwood glued straight to the concrete, which gives a solid feel and a quiet step. If piers went in last year or the slab still shifts with the seasons, we float engineered planks over a moisture barrier so the floor is not bonded to concrete that is moving.
About 3,000 of the city's houses and townhomes were built in 2000 or later. Where one of them has a second floor framed with plywood or OSB, solid 3/4 inch boards can be nailed down upstairs while the ground floor still gets engineered wood.
