Large-format porcelain tile floor installed in an Arlington, TX kitchen

Lasting tile flooring installation in Euless starts with the concrete under the old floor. So much of the city's housing went up in the 1980s that many slabs here have had four decades to crack, settle and collect patches, and tile set rigidly over that history will show it.

Our main tile flooring installation page explains why large tile needs a flatter slab and where joints belong. If an old floor has to come out first, old flooring removal explains how we handle it.

Tile Over Euless Slabs From the 1980s Boom

More of today's Euless homes date from the 1980s than from any other decade. Census counts put Euless at 24,002 people in 1980 and 38,149 in 1990, and about 7,300 of its current housing units were built in those ten years. Many still have their original kitchen, bath and entry floors, or a second layer from the 1990s. When that comes up, we usually find a mix of hairline shrinkage cracks, a few wider cracks from clay soil movement and ridges of old thinset that have to be ground off before new tile will sit flat.

A crack is not automatically a problem. We mark each one, check whether both sides sit level and ask about any foundation repair. Where a crack is stable, a crack isolation or uncoupling membrane goes over it to keep it from reaching the new tile. A crack with one side higher than the other points to movement a membrane cannot cover, and that calls for a foundation evaluation first. In bathrooms and entries, where floors get wet, we steer you toward tile rated DCOF 0.42 or higher, the ANSI benchmark for level interior floors walked on when wet.

Your Euless Tile Quote, Line by Line

Setting methods are covered in detail on the tile page linked above. Here is what a Euless tile quote puts on paper:

  • A look under the old floor for suspect vinyl or black mastic before demolition starts
  • Every crack marked on the slab and noted on a room sketch
  • Old thinset ridges ground off and low areas filled (see subfloor repair and leveling)
  • Membrane over stable cracks, matched to the size of the tile
  • Mortar and grout listed by product and standard, with epoxy grout as an option for kitchens
  • Soft joints at walls and in large rooms, thresholds where tile meets other floors and cleanup

Why choose us

Why Euless Homeowners Call Us for Tile Installation

38,149

Plans for Boom-Decade Slabs

Thousands of Euless homes were poured during one fast-growing decade, and their slabs have now carried about forty years of clay soil swelling and shrinking. Each crack is marked, its treatment is written on your quote and any slab that needs a foundation opinion gets one before money goes into tile.

ANSI A118.15

standard for improved modified thinset

Mortar Named on the Quote

Big porcelain tiles put more demand on the mortar under them. We name the thinset on your quote, often one meeting ANSI A118.15 for improved modified mortars, and back-butter big tiles so they are fully supported. When you compare bids side by side, you can see exactly what will be holding your tile to the slab.

FAQ

Tile Flooring Installation in Euless: FAQ

We found old vinyl under the carpet in our Euless kitchen. Is it safe to tear out?

It may be, but do not scrape, sand or break it until you know. Old resilient flooring is the concern: EPA guidance lists vintage vinyl tile, sheet vinyl backing and black mastic as possible asbestos sources. We stop at that point and recommend a test by an accredited lab. In Texas, asbestos work is regulated by the Department of State Health Services.

Can tile run through the kitchen, entry and halls of my Euless house?

It can, and one continuous floor makes a house feel larger. Long runs of tile need movement joints in the field as well as at the walls, and the slab has to be flat along the whole path. We sketch where the joints and transitions will fall and include that sketch with your quote.
